In the second picture look for scar that travels through the coronary band and back to the heel bulb. We took in this mare a little over two years ago as a twelve year old. Theinjury itself occurred sometime between foaling and the age of six when Oakey must have stepped on something very sharp cutting through the hoof and into the coronary band and heel bulb. It was at six that the family we got Oakey from took possession. Theprevious owner told us that they managed the split through regular trimming, yet I believe the injury caused regular pain. Winter proved to be the time of year that exacerbated the problem. The second winter with us her hoof split so bad there was bleedingand no surprise Oakey literally walked on three legs. This is when I started to look for a solution other than therapeutic shoeing. This is when I found your site and the use of Mugwort in a Moxa Roll. We started therapy just as you recommended and continuedfor more than the prescribed two weeks. Sure enough we started to see some improvement. We tried a boot to give Oakey some relief in the meantime with no success. So we had our farrier apply shoes to the back feet which allowed the hoof to continue to mend. Then this spring to my amazement I was examining the old scar, and when rubbed with my thumb the scar tissue sloughed off. Almost ten months later the crack is almost completely grown out and there is beautiful new soft tissue where the scar use to be. Oakeyhas never been more sound and seemingly happy. She was probably always in pain. In conjunction with the Moxa Roll treatment we used a product called Toe Grow. Thank you for the great recommendation!

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; lang="EN-US">
I'm an American living in Germany and have followed with interest all the developments in Energy Psychology in the last 3 years since I first came in contact with your homepage. I have a B.A. in Psychology (U. of Ill.), am a Heilpraktikerin for Psychology and a Heilpraktikerin and Acupuncturist for animals in Germany. I not telling you this to impress you - I mention it only to make clear why the development of EFT in regard to animals is of particular interest to me.
Even though animals do have meridians and points, the best way to do EFT for animals supposedly is by surrogate or proxy tapping. This means you tap on yourself to make the changes in the animal happen. (I'm sure that you're familiar with all of this by now.) Even though the animal doesn't even have to be near you or connected to you in anyway, supposedly the 2 energy systems are connected. This supports a basic idea of TCM in that "one's every action influences everyone and everything else in the world", I can't argue with that.
However, I don't believe in the Easter Bunny anymore either and the whole idea always seemed pretty far-fetched to me. Even though some people who can talk to animals and read their minds have wonderful successes with this process, most of us just can't connect. Also, in this day and age, it's pretty hard convincing people that they should tap on themselves and their horse will magically stop biting, kicking, rearing, bucking and/or throwing them out of the saddle. In any case, this is what happened to me - my grown-up customers don't even believe in Santa Claus. In cases with problem horses, people want results, and fast, because nasty horses are dangerous. I don't wish a cat that sprays on anyone, that's bad enough, but we all know what happened to the former Superman.
So, I thought, why can't we tap on the animals themselves, horses in any case? The important points are easy to find, horses rarely object to the tapping, and the tapping shows RESULTS. The tapping can cure behavioural problems and sicknesses, make a horse rideable, take away pain and stiffness, stimulate the immune system, etc., etc., etc., just like Acupressure or Acupuncture. WHY NOT TAP ON THE HORSE?
There are certain points on every meridian that balances the meridian on humans, also on horses/dogs/cats. Horses also have all the endpoints of the meridians close to the hoof; they can also be balanced here. One can balance the Shu- or Mu-points in the same way. It gets really interesting when one can test which points need to be stimulated.
When one is capable of testing which points are needed, one can also choose out of, for example, 7-8 Acupressure points which deal with FEAR. There are also certain points which have a direct influence on aggression, anxiety, jealousy, overeating (there's also horses that have an eating problem) and other problems. I'd like to tell everyone what these points are; they can effectively be used as a support to the "basic recipe". The basic points are a must; they encompass the balancing of the energy system. Some unenlightened people just don't care if the energy system is balanced; they want a solution to their problem. I can somehow understand this when one has a dog that destroys the house when the owner is gone!
To illustrate my point, I just got called to visit a horse that was driving his owner crazy. She always wanted to ride alone with her horse in the forest; the only problem was that her boy-horse was in love with a girl-horse. This in itself isn't bad, however, in this case, the boy-horse always flipped out when it was separated from the girl-horse (she didn't seem to mind at all). The flipping-out got so bad that both of them always came back from a ride in the forest soaking wet, angry and very agitated. The rider was disgusted and not a little afraid, as the horse tended to turn around and run back to the barn (over busy streets) and his lady.
We (the owner and I) tapped the basic routine on the horse with the horse-points and then added extra points for "fear of being alone". The exasperated owner tapped on herself because of her fears, impatience, anger and hopelessness (he'll never change! Why is he so unreasonable! Why can't he learn anything! Other horses aren't so stupid!)
Well, a lot a tension was released in this tapping session and once again the horse was "saved from the butcher" as we say here in Germany. Both parties were greatly relieved, which was a major improvement, as the owner usually was quite aggressive and ready to explode when she came back from her "leisurely" ride in the forest.
The next day we tapped before she left the barn with the horse and you could already see the improvement. With daily tapping, I was told; the horse showed steady improvement and is today a "joy to ride". One shouldn't expect immediate miracles, one has to be realistic, patient, and know that this horse had learned how to get his way and had trained his owner accordingly. Both sides of the coin had to be "rewired".
LaVaughn Hengst

http://www.horse-acupuncture.com

Which Laser would you recommend for horses?

I personally would not recommend you use laser. Just the same in certain circumstances it is useful.

Using it often will inhibit your ability to develop acupuncture sensation skills as well as point location skills. Acupuncture needling sensation is a beautiful sensation to be a part of. I would rather recommend people learn this. If they do not feel comfortable with this then they can do moxa or acupressure and then laser.

Having a laser will not give you any skills and does not give a guarantee of any success. Just like with needling successful results can only be achieved by correct point usage for the condition. Just doing lasering or even needling will not achieve any result. Knowledge of the points is necessary and also knowledge which does work. There are many treatment prescriptions out there which do not work and you may very well be disappointed in the results.

Uses of lasers.

Lasers can be useful in horses which do not like needling or for people who do not like to needle. Lasers may be useful to speed wound recovery or clean-up scar tissue. Just the same for the expense you are much better to use moxa( about 60c per stick which lasts many treatments) as compared to a laser which may cost as much as $25,000. This is very impressive but to me an unnecessary expense. Some people like the show, so give them the show.
I have seen many lasers just sitting there unused. I have been called to treat with acupuncture and there was a $10000 laser just sitting there.

If you do wish to get a laser and this may be useful in treating delicate areas such as around the eyes then I suggest you look at the Vetrolaser page where ‘Honesty’ is the marketing tool.
http://www.horse-acupuncture.com

How does equine acupuncture work.

It does not work via nerves or some physical chemical response.

Here is the best way I know to explain how it works.

Consider your house. Flowing through it is air. You cannot see it but you can feel it and you certainly know when it is not there.
Within the body are also flowing airs. As you breath you are making them also ‘breath” and flow. You cannot see them. You cannot cut them and you cannot find them in a dead body. As they flow they irrigate the parts of the physical body that they flow by and have also a effect on the blood flow. They are the intelligence of the body, ‘body intelligence’. These airs are what is called chi, meaning Life or life-force.
Acupuncture has mapped these airs in detail and learned how to make use of them.

Back to our house example. If you lock the doors and windows and go away for a week or two when you return it is very stuffy . This is like an illness in the body. Clearing the illness is akin to opening the doors and windows in the house to make the airs flow again.

The Art of acupuncture is knowing exactly which of the doors or windows to open to get result desired in the minimum time.

These doors and windows in the body are called the points of acupuncture and each has its own particular qualities and effects and ’rooms’ of influence, to allow airs to flow.

Continuing on from our explanation of how acupuncture works.

Explaining five elements as airs

A house is aligned to the four directions of the compass. The body is aligned to the five elements.
Every single part of it has to be breathing to keep the five elements in balance.
There is a breathing that occurs through the points of acupuncture and some points are more aligned to one element than to another. For example if it is more aligned towards fire it is called a fire point.

With the house imagine that in the air there are not one but five different types of air flowing in order to keep the balance. Each has a different temperature, moisture, speed, viscosity and weight.
And the airs can flow in and out at each door or window. What we are trying to achieve is the right balance within the house to maintain optimal comfort and that all rooms are served.

In the body the rooms are the channels (meridians) and the doors(and windows) are the points and we want it all to work responsively. The doors are opening and closing when necessary, to adjust the conditions and the equilibrium in the body, without conscious intervention.

Sometimes the air from one window will adversely interact with the air from another window. This is called the destructive cycle. At other times one will support the other and this is called the creative cycle. In this case one door opening will support the next to open and its air will flow etc.

To get the da chi sensation is akin to feeling the flow of air in your body just like feeling the flow of air in your home. In your house sometimes you may moisten your fingers and put it up and this will help you feel it. The sense for the da chi feeling must come through the fingers.

Sometimes a fan may be used to help the air flow. It does not necessarily have to be on full. One adjusts the rate in order get the best effect with the minimum intervention. Using the fan is akin to doing tonification and sedation with the needles. After getting the da chi sensation one turns the needles either clockwise or anti clockwise to make the chi flow in the desired direction for the desired result. One learns to feel when one has success and when to stop turning..

As far as point location goes I say my fingers have little eyes in them and they are attuned to see the points. Also my fingers are alive and an energy flows from them constantly. When my fingers run over an area they feel the change in resistance to chi flow from my fingers into the client body. This allows me to have accurate point location skills.

Doing healing is like making sure the necessary windows will stay open. You may have to go and open them again later. Sometimes effects last only three days sometimes seven days and sometimes more permanent.

Now with the house one has to consider the changes brought on by the seasons and make the adjustments in the doors and windows accordingly. So in winter there will be less windows open and in summer more. In treatment one seriously has to consider the seasonal influences.

As the seasons change there is a period of 12 days in between them when it is useful to clear out the effects of the previous season and prepare for the next season. So one has spring cleaning.

Another influence to consider in your house is the effects of light. This can be altered via the curtains. The ‘seasons’ of the light are via the equinoxes and solstices. So that at winter solstice (June 21 in southern hemisphere and Dec 21 in northern hemisphere) the light begins to increase and at this time the horse begins to lose coat even though it is not midwinter for 1 more month. This shows how closely the horse is connected to the sun as a solar being. Horse does not like to be inside for long.
.horse-acupuncture.com

Lasers in Equine acupuncture

Which Laser would you recommend for horses?

I personally would not recommend you use laser. page where ‘Honesty’ is the marketing tool.
Read More on Equine acupuncture at www.horse-acupuncture.com

Points of the GB channel in horse needled.

GB44 below
<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5281322120340661282" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_VsWdTfBSneQ/SUsGfJ9RZCI/AAAAAAAAAw0/C1luhQiIAqw/s200/IMG_0497.JPG" style="cursor: hand; Acupuncture is not a medical procedure and is not a placebo effect. If it is considered that way results will be inconsistent, not conclusive and not rewarding in one‘s spirit.

In treatment once you have come up with the initial diagnosis then you decide on a prescription and as you refine the diagnosis you change the prescription. For example initial diagnosis may be Kidney Yin deficiency but you then notice signs also of Liver Yin deficiency and then signs of Liver Fire.

This is before even any needles are inserted. The area or areas where stagnation is occurring and causing illness can also be intuited.

It is not usually a case of just inserting the needles, like a machine. There is something else that can occur if you are not using laser or red-light or electrical stimulation. And this extra thing makes the healing interaction very rewarding. You actually feel the chi, sometimes translated as the life-force, of the horse. You feel its impact on you. It feels your chi and the impact on it. You know something beautiful is going to happen and then you know a result is going to be obtained.

Furthermore when using needles in the dry needling method which is the only method which is actually acupuncture, your intention to heal becomes vitally important. You can manipulate the needles in order to change the chi and direct the chi in certain ways in order to achieve the desired result.

I say it’s like fishing. You turn the needles clockwise and anticlockwise and manipulate also by lift and thrust (in and out) and suddenly you feel the grab just like a fish has grabbed the hook. This is the sensation you are looking for. You continue with the other points like this.

This is not simply a matter of ‘mind over matter’. No ‘matter’ and no ‘mind’ are involved. You feel it in your heart. And when the healing is successful you feel it and when it is complete you feel it. You look for these sensations as signs.

You know it is not “hit or miss”. Oftentimes you see the changes right there before your eyes; say, the spine may straighten, the horse’s lower lip begins to quiver, the eyes go soft, the breathing changes, there is stomach rumbling, horse seems to get heavy, may even have to lean on a fence, drops the head or a leg and yawns violently etc. These are signs of a result.

And if you don’t get this you just continue and find points which do elicit this response on needling. Though on first treatment horse may be very wary and not willing to let go. But next time will let go before you even start.

Sometimes this may not be initially seen but next day improvement of 50% or more may be seen and full effects will felt within 3days from treatment. There is no reason why treatment may not be given everyday but it is not recommended within 3 days of events or races.

B12 Injections are Not Equine Acupuncture?

Acupuncture does not involve injections. No substance is in the needles. Some veterinarians may use injections of Vitamin B12 etc and call this acupuncture or aquapuncture but it is not acupuncture and will not work as acupuncture except is so far as the insertion of a needle by itself will activate an acupuncture energy response. This is also happening with scar tissue therapy where injections are used. This is not likely to be any more effective than a dry needling acupuncture treatment.

Some people use injections and call it acupuncture as they do not have the necessary training to know how acupuncture really works. They cannot feel the energy and so cannot tell when the energy shifts, as when actual acupuncture is working.

Some veterinarians say they are practitioners of acupuncture but always prescribe some veterinary medicines for the same symptoms so they are using the word ‘acupuncture’ to widen their practice and make more money. This is a shameful practice and also shames acupuncture.

Redlight torches and lasers do have healing effects and their promotion should not be mentioning acupuncture. Acupressure maybe.

Acupuncture requires sensitivity, and training in the ability to feel chi and work with the movement of the different types of chi. Each person has chi and the quality of this must be developed. Trainings in Acu-energy healing will improve this and also trainings in Reiki.

Homeopathy.
Homeopathic injection is also not acupuncture, but homeopathy, and the two should not be confused. The homeopathic may be injected into acupuncture points but this would not give a better result than injection any where else.
Homeopathy and acupuncture work well together just as acupuncture and chiropractic work well together.

http://www.horse-acupuncture.com

Horse Hypnosis

This is very interesting to see. Acupuncture is a form of healing and as such involves altered states. The subject is relaxed and taken into a state, different from the normal state, where the healing takes place. This is not the way or subject of Medicine, nor is this the aim of the Acupuncture Method. It is a side-effect.

Many, many times in giving a horse acupuncture, persons and animals around will also go to sleep. And in one way this is a blessing as, in any one family, all are affected if any one member of the family is affected, especially in regard to animals. They tend to take on , in their kindness and compassion, the symptoms of the owner. This is called Surrogating. I always say, I treat a horse and a rider for free. Fix the rider and the horse feels much better. This surrogating must always be looked into in treatment. If the rider walks with a right hand limp then the horse will end up with right hand symptoms Always look for the cause.

To do hypnosis. After acupuncture needling of Baihui, Li5, Li12 and “getting Chi’, give horse a little time to let go. Then beginning at eyes move hand slowly backwards and forwards from left eye to right eye. This is called a ‘Pass’ and involves switching brains. All the while you are making the passes you are saying out loud ‘ you are now going to sleep’. Then as this takes effect, slowly do the passes, and move down towards the nose all the time with the intention of putting them to sleep. And then move the passes down towards the ground. Horses head will drop. It seems very funny but do not laugh. Horse is in a very vulnerable state. It allows them to know that they can trust you, and also themselves entering into deeper altered states where their healing can take place. You may like to add some suggestions at this point for performance and ego-strengthening. The funniest thing I have ever seen is when I gave a chook an acupuncture needle into its swollen crop. It sat there completely hypnotized, completely stunned.
http://www.horse-acupuncture.com

Acupuncture for fish (Koi)

click on image to view larger image

ACUPUNCTURE ON FISH, A FIRST FOR THE WESTERN WORLD!!
Local man Allan Moffatt, is reported to have done Acupuncture on fish at the Koi Farm on Short Cut Road Raleigh. The two large koi called Big Mumma and Lucky responded very well.Wayne from the Koi farm says,“We used a small stretcher in the water to hold them still.”Allan says “I have never put acupuncture needles in a fish before. I have treated many sorts of animals over the past 20 years(specialising in horses) and this was all new to me. I put the needles through the scales in between the vertebra. Immediately they relaxed and you could see their spine straighten. I even gave one some acupuncture pressure massage which I could see she thouroughly enjoyed. This is not a world first as the Japanese has used acupuncture on fish to keep them relaxed while travelling to restaurants, later to be eaten or showed. Every Temple in Japan has its own Koi lake. Koi are considered a sign of luck, they can live up to 300 years old They can reach up to 1.2 mtrs long and weigh over 18 kgs. Originally, 400 years ago they where kept in the bottom of wells and saved as food for winter.
Wayne says they are peaceful beautiful creatures who soon get to know you. Videos and photo’s can be seen at the Koi farm owned by Dan Van Zanten and Wayne Stoves, at 200 Short Cut Road Raleigh Phone 66556604 or 0402614456

More on animal acupuncture www.horse-acupuncture.com

Acupuncture for Downer syndrome in cows

The ascension of the cow story
The cow is very sacred in India. In the western world it had become a
factory animal until 2001 when in England millions of cows were put
down due to ‘foot and mouth’ disease. At this time I was taking a group
through the angel ascension process, a 12 week course. I was called upon
to do acupuncture on a cow on a nearby property. This cow had ‘gone
down’. This is what the farmers (called in Australia ‘cockies’) call this
condition. It happens especially after birthing, the cow cannot get up off
the ground. The ‘cockie’ attitude is, if it has been down for 3 days it won’t
get up, so they shoot it, out of ‘mercy’, or ‘mercenary’. This is the story.
It had already been 10 days when I first came. The lady was providing
feed for her, and water. There was some contention amongst the local
males as to what to do. I said ‘This cow is down because its spirit has
gone down’. I had a feeling maybe this cow is doing this NDE, angel
ascension process too. After a few days I was convinced that it was. I
said ‘this cow won’t get up until such and such a day’, that is how the
process goes. It is called an angel ascension but the spirit must go down
to find the lost soul parts.
We kept its muscles moving and relaxed, and bathed the abscesses that
formed with salt water. The abscesses were the old releasing. On
several occasions they tried to raise the cow using a truss and tractor,
but to no avail.
During this time I had some beautiful insights into the soul nature of a
cow. One day I could see the cosmic energy being drawn in through the
horns, then being transformed in the cow into both milk and manure. In
the manure, this energy is then able to enter into the Earth itself, and
form soil. Here is Heaven, Earth and Cow in between. At this time I
realized the significance of horns, and felt some horny energies such as
sheep, goats, deer, elk, Manitou, even an ancient Celtic god, the one with
branches in his hair. (Cernunnon)
Another day as we went down a grey crane zoomed past my ear and
landed in the cow paddock. The crane is the totem bird of Gabriel. It was
announcing that angel’s presence. Later when I was with the cow, it flew
in a big circle around. It seemed like it was defining the sacredness of the
area. There was such a reverence and awe in the air, yet simplicity too.
After 21 days the cow still had not risen. But it still had gleam in its eyes.
By this time it had become a community affair. There was much talk
about what to do. Some people were having very emotional responses.
One man threatened to shoot her. His emotions were overpowering him.
My prediction had been for the 30th day, but she still did not get up. I
was ready to give up. But the next day we saw that she had moved more
than 20 metres in the night but it didn’t seem like she had dragged
herself. I began needling her (acupuncture) but she butted me away as
if to say ‘I don’t need you’. Then she stood up, very, very shaky at first.
None of us dared to move or speak in case we might distract her. I was
amazed. It was a rare moment, almost a miracle moment. She walked
into the shade but she could only use 3 legs.
I could feel her spirit had returned from the centre of the Earth. What it
had been doing there I did not yet know.
I said in 2 more weeks, as there were 2 more weeks to the NDE process,
she would put her other leg down. All 4 would be on Earth.

Because of my association with the cow and with the Earth I was aware
of a very strong energy which had returned with her which was just
beneath the surface. I wondered how it would get to the surface. Then 9.11
happened and it hit the surface all over the world. This is what really
happened on that day. External events reflect inner events. I said that more
energy was coming and it needed a creative event to occur otherwise it
would happen again. The very next day another plane crashed in New
York. The headlines said ‘144 secs from take-off to disaster’. There was
that 144 again indicating it was a monadic energy that had entered into
Earth and returned. The Earth’s core was being transformed. This monad
is called the ‘Blood Monad’. We will no longer be bound by the ties of
blood. Later Paul Macartney performed a Freedom concert in NY and that
was just the creative event that was needed.
In the meantime the lady farmer said that each time she goes to the cow
it is so happy to see her it exudes a white fluid from her udder that is not
milk. It just drips out1.
As a strange follow-up I noticed that on World Angel Day Oct 7th 2001
a biodynamic farmer dug up 7500 cowhorns (previously buried there).
This was the original number of people who were recorded as missing
after that catastrophe. These horns were near to the place that is
traditionally known as a place of lost souls. The cow horns can somehow
pull in the cosmic energy into the substance in the horns where it is held.
Being in the Earth it can absorb earthly energies as well. I wondered if
they had pulled in the energies from the lost souls as well. These would
now be spread over the land itself, invigorating it.
Two years later The cow gave birth to a beautiful calf. She has a good
supply of milk, and one local lady, who has been drinking it, says her
long term digestive conditions have cleared up. Perhaps it is miracle
milk. The lady farmer said that what she had learned the most in this
whole episode was the significance of sacrifice. ‘The animals have
sacrificed themselves for us and in turn we can serve them’.
Interestingly they wanted to call the calf ‘Violet’ which is the name of
the Monad that is coming in this year (2003). It heals the abandoned and
the forsaken.

http://www.horse-acupuncture.com

How To Clear Up Old Scar Tissue In Horses

by
Allan Moffatt B.Sc., B.Acup.This really works. And amazingly. It is a technique from the old-fashioned traditions of Chinese Medicine. I have seen it completely clear up the worst scarring, which looked like leather, in two weeks. I am not selling you anything. There is nothing to sell.
You need to get some of what is called moxa rolls from a Chinese store or acupuncturist. It is a herb, mugwort, compressed into long rolls like a cigar. When burned it emits a fragrant pleasant smoke which the horses don’t mind once they get used to it. It burns slowly and has the added advantage of not producing any ashes, so accidental burning is reduced to a minimum. The technique of using the moxa is called moxibustion. Originally it was designed to be used on acupuncture points and sometimes the needles themselves to enhance blood flow, to disperse hardness due to chill or swellings caused by dampness. The warmth moves the chill and the dampness.
Using it will stimulate the self-healing forces to come to an area. This self-healing force is called chi.(Qi). So what you do with scars is bring the lit moxa to about 1” from the scar tissue making sure it is not hot at the skin level just warm.
Then beginning slightly outside the scar make a slow circle around the outside level and then gradually make slow circles towards the inside of the scar to the center then back out again. Continue working this way, outside into centre and back out to outside. Imagine you are drawing something out with the warmth if that helps.
This needs up to twenty minutes each day. You will be amazed. I was.
One time I saw this dreadful scarring on a horse’s inside thigh about two feet diameter. It was black and hard. I taught the owner this technique and he did what I said with enthusiasm and caring. Within one week when I returned it was all new young flesh and when another week had gone by all the hair had grown back. There you go.
This technique can also be used for new scar tissue to speed the healing and prevent scar formation. As moxa stimulates the immune system it can be used lightly with fresh wounds after a certain time to prevent sepsis but one must be careful not to let it get too hot, and also if there is existing inflammation. It is not recommended if there is much inflammation with swelling.
The author Allan Moffatt has trained as a human acupuncturist.
This technique can also be used for new scar tissue to speed the healing and prevent scar formation as in torn tendons.
This forms a perfect polarity to our modern Western Medicine, and also to Homeopathy. The difference lies in their historical origins. In China over centuries and centuries there was a taboo against cutting up or dissecting dead bodies, and examining them. But this was how modern Western Medicine began in the middle 19th century. The Chinese had only the opportunity to explore the living bodies, and developed the concepts of the Life-force or chi to explain their clairvoyant and clairsentient perceptions.

Someone, long ago , like 5000 years ago supposedly the Yellow Emperor brought into existence a tract called the Nei Ching. This book laid out in detail the bulk of the knowledge and understanding of the intricacies of the human life-forces and their interaction with the Heavens, with the Earth and with other sentient beings, such as horses.

The human structure consisted of twelve main channels or energy axes along which the growth and development would occur beginning from the in utero period at conception.

Along these channels were energy points which were opening and closing like flowers.

The horse structure is much the same, the energies coalescing and forming the physical structure which we first see at birth. The difference between human and horse is that humans have uprightness or upright energies . In humans this gives a Heavens to Earth ability, but in horses the principal energy remains parallel to earth with a small connection to the Heavens through the Third eye area where a unicorns horn would be positioned

‘In the horse the earth has been pushed up into four legs and a big heart put into it’.

This Heart gives the horse Spirit, and from it comes the sensation of ‘flying’ , through the power it receives through its hoofs from the Earth.

Acupuncture has its early origins in acupressure, where one touches and feels places on the body and notes their response. One learns to think laterally when you find that a point on the foot is the best for swelling and pain of teeth.. They are at opposite ends of the body and could hardly be further away. There is no logical, linear explanation to this. The Chinese view begins with the Whole, the Tao, and divides into the parts whereas the Western view takes the parts and puts them together to make the Whole.

Also it seems like magic when you first see a needle inserted through the skin and there is no bleeding. We have come to think of the body as solid yet now it is full of holes where needles can go. Our view has to change. This needling technique is a skill in itself and there are other skills which one has to develop, apart from the knowledge of the functions of each point and the Chinese diagnostic system.. Some people have these skills naturally and some people have to develop them.

These skills include
ability to feel or sense the life-force in the auric field
ability to feel/sense a point and its qualities, given its location.
ability to sense the internal movement of the life-force or chi
ability to sense temperatures.
ability to sense when healing has taken place.
ability to sense when healing is complete, and how long it will be before health is restored.
ability to sense complexions.
knowing what may be treated with acupuncture and what is better treated with something else.
ability to needle effectively without causing pain or using anaesthetics
ability to attune to horses, recognise their subtle movements and signals, and respond to these
Ability to feel or sense the life-force in the auric field

As you enter closer and closer to the horse you will notice and feel different responses at different distances and different locations, especially if you rush or try to go near the poll or ears. These responses you will learn to ‘read’ , and vary from one horse to the next, from one day to the next.

Ability to feel/sense a point and its qualities, given its location.
When first learning you will need to rely on anatomical point locations provided by textbooks.. It took me one year of full time practice before I could actually ‘feel’ where the points were. Now I can say " I see them through my fingers. My fingers have eyes and they see the flowers or energy vortices. They are very beautiful.
Ability to sense the internal movement of the life-force or chi
The chi or energy flow of each horse is very different. Some flow slowly, some flow quickly. On needling, some chi flows change slowly and some change quickly. Some may change so quickly it elicits a muscle spasm as the chi rushes through the muscles.
This sense is akin to feeling changes in the breeze on the skin. There is a phenomena called "da Qi’ or ‘getting chi’ which one feels for to occur after the needle is inserted. The stronger this chi grabs the needle the stronger the horses constitution is, and the faster it will heal. This is a method I use to determine inherited and constitutional strengths and weaknesses. This is very important if one wants to determine if offspring have the qualities you wanted to be bred into them
Ability to sense temperatures.
When I was learning I could not feel with my fingers hot or cold. I dreamed I swallowed a thermometer and then I could notice the hot and cold, and still can to this day.. Feeling heat in the shins or tendons could forewarn you of coming injuries unless the training schedule is changed.

Ability to sense when healing has taken place.
Just putting needles in anywhere is not necessarily going to do it. There is an art and science to it. . Injecting vitamin B12 may make the horse feel better but it is not acupuncture. There is a certain feeling that comes when a successful treatment is taking place. You will feel better. You may see colours. The horse’s breathing will get easier, and she may get sleepy. A shiver may pass through them as a shock releases. The horse will stand on leg it previously had stood off. The ears and eyes will relax. Wind may pass, and sighing occur.
Ability to sense when healing is complete, and how long it will be before health is restored.
When the healing is complete the horse will come out of its trance, acknowledge you and give indications it wants to be on its way such as looking for food. Without this sense one has to "watch the clock’ normally about twenty minutes.
Ability to sense complexions.
This is important in Chinese diagnostics. Though there are not too many colours that a horse can have the variations can be a good indication. I noticed one horse had a very dark complexion with dark all through the aura. I suggested this indicated a worm infestation, and sure enough tests showed levels of a very rare worm were way beyond normal. Often dark areas in the aura are an indication of pain. Also the coat thick at the wrong time of year indicates fatigue of Kidneys.
Knowing what may be treated with acupuncture and what is better treated with something else.
Stifle joint problems respond really well as does sciatica, sacroiliac pain, tail correction and spinal curvature, to name a few.. Acupuncture will not work i f horse has recently had cortisone containing drugs.
Ability to attune to horses, recognise their subtle movements and signals, and respond to these
Some horses like acupuncture, and just like with people, there are some who hate it. These may do better with a twitch, or in some cases put in a crush, or given a sedative by a vet.

One very useful application of acupuncture is to easily fill out muscle especially after wasting diseases, or to clear up old scar tissue.
from my most famous cases
1. The horse, a thoroughbred stood and stared all day at the passing traffic as if transfixed. The owners said it was a killer. Any animals that came near it , other horses , chooks , dogs even people, it tried to kill. Somehow I managed to get some needles around the ears and neck. The owners said that after several days a cheese-like substance came out of its ears and then the horse became like the horse they always wanted and knew she was, a gentle affectionate kind creature. The cheese-like substance had been from a brain sarcoma. I recommended that whenever it rained to give the horse some elder flowers to keep the sinuses clear so oxygen could get up into the brain.

2. Young horse pre-racing presented with Wobbler syndrome, could hardly coordinate back and front legs to walk. Over a period of 5 months once a month I used very long needles on it. My thought was that the horse was not likely ever to race and the owner said he would eat his hat if it ever won. At 10 years of age it had won over $100,000 in race money and the owner had to eat his hat quite a few times. Good result

The author Allan Moffatt has a degree in Science and a degree in Acupuncture and teaches equine acupressure courses at different times . These then have a reflection in the sacred places and dreaming grounds of Earth.

The horse is considered to have three brains; one in the head, one in the shoulders, one in the hind quarters. (These are the product of the Triple Heaters energy in the Chinese medicine system). When this transfers onto Earth we have the TRINITY levels of Earth’s etheric body, which is nourished by the three angelic levels; solar, galactic and universal. This will apply to all animals.

So the Earth contains a reflection of every animal, almost as an element in itself. These you might call archetypes. So all animal spirits are contained within the Earth. This is reflected in that the soil, is nourished by the dung of animals. In the dung is the essence of the animal, as dung contains the animal’s chemical secretions, used as an aid in transmuting food to become part of itself, say its flesh.

Likewise the angel secretions, in the human body, are transmuting earth food into angel food for nourishing of the angel body. This is in order to consolidate the angel body for the incarnation. The Angel secretions in their ‘fingers of God or Yod’ form are for nurturing the Angel Body of the Earth.

For Heaven to be on Earth, both Heaven has to come to Earth, and Earth has to be raised up to Heaven. Earth must become an angel!!!This gives, for the general person, a very different attitude to what Earth is.

for more info

www.horse-acupuncture.com

Allan Moffatt has been an equine acupuncturist for 20 years. He grew up, and lived in the city where he had no contact with horses until he was in his thirties. He talks about the emotions of horses, the sensitivity of horses, and their spirit.

Horses often feel grief yet rarely do you see them cry. The grief becomes expressed in other ways such as weeping ulcers, abscesses and lung problems. When they are moved to a new place they will often fret, which is expressed, by manic pacing to and fro day and night, aggression and whinnying. They miss their friends and fear their new situation.

Horses are very sensitive. Their skin may seem thick but they can feel the biting of any flies, mosquitoes and tiny invisible midges. They may be constantly moving twitching and foot stamping for hours on end. They are sensitive to touch, to warmth from your hands and also to the energy from your hands as they express kindness and understanding. They should be treated the way babies and small children are treated. Unfortunately they are very big, powerful land sometimes scary, ‘big kids’. Assurance works well with this. The better the horse the more responsive they are.

Horse hypnosis

Horses also begin their lives with two sides to their brain. These two sides often do not know what the other side is doing. If you teach them on one side you often have to teach them again the same thing on the other side. Their ‘brains’ are not communicating. I use this fact to do Hypnosis on the horses. By shifting their attention backwards and forwards from one brain to the other, they can be easily put into a very sleepy trance-like state, and old learned responses released from their spirit bodies.

FACT: A horse begins losing its coat at the winter solstice, not at the end of winter when the cold has ended, as you might expect. The thick coat is not from warmth but a response to less light and more dark in the day. When I first heard this I was quite surprised. This tells me that the horse is a being of Light not warmth or Fire. This is why Pegasus can sometimes be seen as a being of light flying in the night sky.

Horses have a spirit that needs to be nurtured and kept intact. This will help get the most value out of the horse. Breaking their spirit is not useful. Nurturing their spirit is the way to go. They say ‘a horse is a big heart on legs’ and also ‘the earth rises up into the horse form, and a heart is put into it’.

When I am working on a horse I often see their angels appear and come into the horse. When this happens I know the horse has retrieved its spirit and that it will be well.

Story of horse called ‘Angel’.I was working on a beautiful grey warmblood. I saw the angel of light come into her. Just as I asked ‘what is this horse’s name, the owner said ‘she is called ‘Angel’.Each of us also has a guardian angel that nurtures and protects us.
